Open call for a Moving Image Workshop

Filmmakers and video artists are invited to submit their proposal for the intensive Moving Image Workshop taking place this month at Chronus Art Center in Shanghai.

A group of ten artists will be chosen to create a media art piece together. The objective is to learn “how to put ideas into images”. The result will be shown publicly at the end of the workshop at Chronus Art Center.

<Requirement for participants>

Participants should speak and understand English and have knowledge in media art, film, video, and share knowledge and equipment during the workshop. Artists of all ages are welcome. The workshop is free of charge. (There are no costs but participants are requested to pay for their food, lodging, travelling expenses, if need be).

 

<How to apply >

Please send an e-mail to info@chronusartcenter.org with a short CV (one page max.) including information such as name, gender, contact, background, interest, relevant experience, as well as one or two links of previous works. The application will close on November 7. Successful candidates will be notified by November 10.

 

<Workshop Schedule>

The first meeting will take place Sunday November 13 at CAC from 13:00 to 17:00.

This meeting includes a 45-minute open briefing session followed by a 3-hour workshop session with chosen participants. The briefing session is open for public and it serves as an opportunity for all potential candidates to meet the tutor and decide whether to join the next sessions of the workshop based on mutual commitment between the candidate and the tutor.

Schedule for further sessions of the workshop will be settled.

 

<Phases included in the next sessions>

Phase 1. Inspiration: Participants will and get to know each other and watch art works together. Development: We will find a subject to explore and write a script for a ± 10 to 15 minute piece and make a schedule.

Phase 2. Pre-production: We will decide what is needed for the project: who does what, where will we shoot (find locations, artefacts such as costumes, props & makeup, as well as actors & actresses, musicians and other talents. The idea is that everyone put ideas, passion, talent, knowledge and contacts in contribution.) The purpose is to work with available resources and networking.

Phase 3. The production phase: shooting the film. Every participant will have a specific task, such as coordinating, directing, photography, sound, etc.).

Phase 4. The post-production phase: editing, music, adding atmospheric sounds, maybe a narration, English subtitles, sound mix, color correction, final edit, etc.

On November 30, the final work will be shown at CAC.

 

<About the Tutor>

Lysanne Thibodeau is a Montreal based Canadian filmmaker, video artist, visual and media art curator, musician, lecturer, teacher and instructor. She holds a Masters degree in Fine Arts specialized in Cinema production from Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She has expertise in teaching production and theoretical video and filmmaking courses since 2001. Fluent in spoken and written English, French and German language with basic knowledge of Italian and Spanish, she has given lectures and workshops in Universities and Art centers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, USA and Venezuela.

Her films have won awards and have been shown in museums and international film festivals (Ankara, Barcelona, Berlin, Bonn, Calgary, Caracas, Krakow, Dresden, Hamburg, London, Manila, Manchester, Melbourne, Milan, Moncton, Montreal, Namur, Ottawa, Paris, Rome, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Turin, Toronto, Vancouver, Venice, Wroclaw, Yellowknife).
